Track History and Fun Facts: Now known as Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, the 400,000 square-foot complex will again undergo many more changes, transforming into a true entertainment destination. Since opening its doors nearly 41 years ago, Pocono Downs has undergone many changes. The biggest change, was ushered in when the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) purchased the Wilkes-Barre area racetrack and its off-track wagering facilities for $280 million from Penn National Gaming, Inc., in January of 2005. Work on the multi-million dollar renovation began in fall 2005 with the demolition of the old grandstand and several improvements to the Pacer's Clubhouse. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2007/early 2008.
