Track History and Fun Facts: The Meadowlands' inaugural Thoroughbred meet began on September 6, 1977. The "Big 'M" is also North America's premier Standardbred track. Track is part of a complex that also includes Giants Stadium, home of two NFL teams, and the arena where the NBA's New Jersey Nets and NHL's New Jersey Devils play their home games. From 1987 to 1990, Julie Krone won four consecutive Meadowlands riding titles; Joe Bravo has been the 'M's leading jockey through most of the 90's. John Henry's final career victory came in the Ballantine's Scotch Classic at the "M" on October 13, 1984.

With its sweeping curves and wide stretches, the "M" has been known for exceptional times for harness racing. Opening night at the track featured the fastest harness mile run in New Jersey at the time and the world record for a mile by a standardbred was established at the track on June 22, 1996.
